crowaboutit! about!
Jolene Crowley
I’m Jolene Crowley, principal designer and photographer of crowaboutit! based in El Cajon, Calif.

After nearly two decades as a media relations publicist and owner of Crowley Communications, I’ve changed directions – still under the marketing umbrella – but instead of using words to “crowabout” my clients, I create graphics and pictures to amplify your message.

I started my career in the newsroom of The San Diego Union-Tribune (formerly The Tribune), where I spent more than a decade working in various departments as an editorial aide. In that role, I supported staff writers covering everything from restaurant reviews and entertainment to politics, government and business reporting. I also contributed business and real estate stories as a freelance writer.

In 1985, I began a career in public relations working for several local PR agencies, representing local and national clients in the areas of:

  • commercial and residential real estate (Aviara, Great American Plaza)
  • higher education (National University)
  • consumer products (WD-40 and Solatube)
  • retail (Bazaar del Mundo and Petco)
  • museum (Museum of Photographic Arts)
  • law (law firm of Sullivan, Cummins, Wertz, McDade and Wallace)
  • banking (San Diego National Bank)
  • high tech (TRW LSI Products)
  • food (Bumble Bee Seafoods)
  • new ventures (Planet Packaging Technology).

After a short stint as Director of Marketing Communications for the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, I launched Crowley Communications in 1994.

Clients on the Crowley Communications roster included:

  • polling (Competitive Edge Research & Communications)
  • higher education (SDSU’s College of Business and Entrepreneurial Management Center)
  • consumer products (The Upper Deck Company and Solatube International)
  • business (San Diego affiliate of Inner Circle and Inner Circle International)
  • authors (former San Diego Tribune Financial Editor Janet Lowe, author of more than a dozen books; and Ken Lee, author of "Trouncing the Dow")
  • fundraising events (1998 and 1999 Jazzercise Marathon for Breast Cancer Research)
  • law (The Law Offices of Michael L. Crowley, The Gomez Law Firm)
  • consumer trade shows (Westward Expos, producers of the Spring and Fall Home/Garden Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and Bridal Bazaar)

Volunteerism:

  • As a member of the Committee for Areawide Involvement in Redevelopment in the mid-1980s, I was part of the original community outreach team charged with the revitalization of the Gaslamp District
  • Member of the Board of Governors of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation
  • Board Officer and Community Relations Chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County
  • Foundation Board Member and Communications Chair of the San Diego Mediation Center (now called the National Conflict Resolution Center)
